A multitude of vibrantly dressed participants gathered in the heart of Ethiopia's capital for the traditional Irreecha event this weekend.
This thanksgiving celebration is celebrated by the Oromo community, Ethiopia's largest ethnic group, and takes place at the completion of the land's main wet season.
Every year, participants gather around sacred rivers and lakes to express gratitude to their higher powers for the fertile landscape that the rainy season have provided.
"I've been celebrating the festival for the previous nine years," mentioned twenty-five-year-old one attendee.
"For me, Irreecha embodies my heritage, it demonstrates the honor and significance of my community."
Gentlemen, women, the older generation and the young all participate, adorned in attention-grabbing attire and ornaments.
They chant, dance, exchange narratives and place recently harvested grass and floral arrangements in liquid - denoting existence, renewal and hope.
The celebration brings in individuals from throughout the country, attendees fly in from internationally.
"I attended last year - the experience was amazing, so spectacular, I invited my kids with me now," said an international guest, originating from Northern Ireland.
"It's wonderful. Everyone greets you, all attendees shows warmth and says welcome."
The opening day of the event occurred on recently in the capital. On the next day, festival-goers journeyed to Bishoftu, a settlement near the urban center.
While the festival has its origins in indigenous faith systems, it is now practiced by the larger part of Oromos, irrespective of their religion.
