Heroic Rail Staff Member Suffers Severe Injuries Amid Multiple Knife Attack on Express Train

A courageous railway staff member who stepped in to protect travelers during a mass stabbing incident on a high-speed train has sustained critical wounds, authorities confirmed on Sunday.

Details of the Frightening Event

CCTV video reportedly shows the employee attempting to halt the attacker as the train traveled between Peterborough and another station in the county. Witnesses described a frightening 14-minute period after the train departed Peterborough, with bloodied victims fleeing through carriages.

The individual, a 32-year-old citizen from Peterborough, remains in detention for interrogation. Police declared a significant incident on the 6:25 pm service from Peterborough to King's Cross in downtown London.

Crisis Response and Consequences

The incident on Saturday night resulted in 11 people being treated in medical facilities after the train made an unplanned stop at platform 2 in Huntingdon. Five individuals have since been discharged from hospital.

A bystander recorded the suspect waving a large knife and being shot with a stun device as he confronted police on the station. He was reportedly heard yelling, "Kill me, kill me."

“This terrible incident has affected many people. We are thinking of the victims and their families – particularly the brave employee of train personnel whose family are being supported by specialist personnel,” said a senior law enforcement officer.

Union Response and Appeals for Measures

Rail associations were swift to commend staff and demand more action. A union official said he would be “requesting immediate meetings with government, rail employers and police to ensure that we have the best possible assistance, tools and robust protocols in place”.

A different union leader urged the train operator and authorities “to move swiftly to review security, to support the impacted employees, and to ensure that no incident like this happens again”.

Operator Praised for Quick Thinking

The operator who stopped the service at Huntingdon was described as being “very shaken” but “well”, and has been praised by union representatives for doing “exactly the right thing”.

“He didn’t stop the service in the middle of two stops where it’s obviously difficult for the emergency services to access, but he carried on traveling until he arrived to Huntingdon, where the response was almost already there,” explained a union representative.

Additional Information

Authorities stated they received the first distress reports at 7:39 pm, and the train was forced to make an unplanned stop in Huntingdon at 7:50 pm.

One witness described at first wondering if the event was a holiday prank, but soon understood from individuals' expressions that it was real.

Police have stated there is nothing to suggest the event was a terrorist incident and have requested the public to come forward with any additional details.

Rail operations on the affected route are expected to have disruption until the following day, with travelers advised to defer their travel where feasible.

Individuals with information that could assist the investigation are encouraged to reach authorities by texting a designated number with a case code.
