A Tooth Fairy Tale Review: Cartoon Journey with a Sprinkling of Kid-Appropriate Tween Love Story

Throughout this cartoon adventure for preteens, the world of fairies focuses on collecting baby teeth of slumbering youngsters and leaving gold beneath where they sleep. Board-riding teenage rebel fairy Van (brought to life by Booboo Stewart) is less than thrilled about spending his future to gathering baby teeth—a feeling that’s entirely reasonable. He is just a bit more curious about the financial workings of the situation: the fairies hand over the molars to unseen goblins, who supply gold as payment. But Van’s curiosity is piqued when he catches sight of a goblin (played by Larkin Bell), who turns out to be far from the ugly creature he expected.

A Forbidden Connection and Shared Threat

The stage is set for an exciting quest with a light sprinkling of teen romance (even though it remains perfectly appropriate for younger kids). The fairy and goblin groups are estranged from each other, and there’s nothing like the excitement of secrecy to bring people as one. Both groups as seen here are remarkably alike, yet both maintain prejudiced beliefs about the opposite side. Fairies are said to be entitled types, given to stealing anything they want, while the goblins are allegedly stupid, foul-smelling, and primitive, but are actually intelligent and technologically advanced.

Of course, such a setup requires a common enemy to unite against, and that need is met by a group of vicious spiders, voiced by Jon Lovitz and Fran Drescher. There’s no beating about the bush about their intentions: they want to eat the fairies and goblins, and they make for quite savage, though not particularly skilled, villains.

Ideal Viewers and Overall Impression

There aren’t very many children’s animations targeting the viewer group that is starting to experience first crushes, but are not mature enough for the content teenagers are watching in lieu of Twilight. If your child falls into this age group, it probably won’t to become their new favorite movie, but it’s a decent choice.

The Tooth Fairy Story releases in Scottish cinemas from 10 October and across the United Kingdom beginning October 24.
